KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein today called on all UMNO members nationwide to accept the sacking of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir with an open heart.
He said UMNO members should also understand that the sacking of the duo was not done based on the sentiments of parochialism, but because of disciplinary offences.
“If the decision can be accepted unanimously by the Supreme Council, then it should also be accepted by all state UMNO liaison committees.
“This is important for us because UMNO members, whether in Johor or any other states, should understand the reasons for the sacking,” he told reporters after distributing 1,000 packs of ‘bubuk lambuk’ (savoury porridge) to members of the public at the Ramadan Bazaar in Taman Setiawangsa here today.
Last Friday, UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the council’s decision to sack Muhyiddin and Mukhriz as UMNO members for flouting discipline and to suspend vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shapie Apdal’s membership pending a report from the party’s disciplinary committee.
Hishammuddin also called on both Muhyiddin and Mukhriz not to do something that could jeopardise UMNO even after being sacked from the party.
He said both of them should hold on to the pledge they made while they were in UMNO, namely to fight for Islam, for the Malays and the nation.
Meanwhile, Pahang UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the decision to sack Muhyiddin and Mukhriz was not really an action outside the political habits.
“The party is our priority. The case of ‘lawan tauke’ (biting the hands that feed you) is not new, we have seen Anwar (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and Musa Hitam (Tun Musa Hitam) launched fierce attacks against the then party president.
“In this context, we have to be rational. Those who committed offences must be punished. The president (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) is the party’s pillar of strength and discipline is the foundation of our struggle. No doubt that the
decision was taken to preserve harmony and strengthen the party’s position,” he added. – BERNAMA
