BANGI: Former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has called on the public to accept the court’s decision on opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial, which concludes tomorrow.
Dr. Mahathir said regardless of the outcome, the court’s verdict was determined by the nation’s laws and must be respected, as reported by NST’s Rozanna Latiff.
“If the court finds that (Anwar) is not guilty, then we should accept it.
“Although we should not feel that just because he is a person in an important position, nothing has been done,†he said after delivering a lecture at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia here today.
He declined, however, to comment on how a guilty verdict would affect Pakatan Rakyat or the outcome of the next general election.
“Let the legal system determine (the verdict). I have no say about this, whatever they decide is whatever they decide.
“We are all equal before the law, no matter if you are the prime minister, deputy prime minister, or a wealthy businessman. If you do something wrong, you should be receive the same punishment as everyone else.â€-NST
