JOHOR BAHRU – UMNO and other Barisan Nasional (BN) component party members were today told to accept the candidates named for the 14th general election with an open heart and to not sabotage them to ensure victory for the coalition.
Johor Bahru UMNO division leader Tan Sri Shahrir Abd Samad said those whose were not named as candidates should not be disappointed, but to continue with the BN’s struggle in safeguarding the people’s interests and welfare.
“What should be displayed by BN now is discipline because as a party that has long been established and matured, we should have discipline.
“This is a general election. There will not be any perfect candidates, but we have the best among the chosen ones. There is no point in sulking because the most important is to ensure victory for BN,” he told reporters at the opening of a Johor Bahru City Foundation kindergarten and presentation of kindergarten fee subsidy for those in the B40 group at the Pangsapuri Desa Dato Hajjah Hasnah here today.
Shahrir, who is the incumbent Johor Bahru Member of Parliament, said all BN members and supporters should work together to win the people’s votes for the coalition.
“My role now as the Johor Bahru Election Director is to ensure all the three BN candidates for the parliament seat and two state seats win in the general election,” he said.
From his observation, he said, there was strong acceptance among the people for BN in Johor Bahru.
“We want the support to be translated into voters and victory for BN,” he added. — BERNAMA
