KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has expressed appreciation to Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang who ends his term as the 16th Dewan Negara president today.
Azalina, in a statement today, said Abu Zahar had shown a high level of professionalism to successfully enhance the dignity of the Dewan Negara as a competent branch of the Legistative.
“As Minister on Parliamentary Affairs, I wish to record the highest appreciation and thanks for his excellent service in handling the Dewan Negara for the past two terms,” she said.
Abu Zahar, 72, a former president of the Council of Former Elected Representatives, was appointed 16th Dewan Negara president on April 26, 2010 to replace Datuk Wong Foon Meng whose service ended on April 12, 2010.
He began his career as an inspector in the Royal Malaysian Police and his last post was as deputy superintendent of police at the Bukit Aman Commercial CID in 1979.
From 1980 to 1986, Abu Zahar continued his law practice in the federal capital before winning the Kuala Pilah state assembly seat and was appointed state housing and local government committee chairman.
