KUALA LUMPUR – About 750 local and international media personnel representing some 100 media organisations are expected to converge on the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here, for the 48th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and Post-Ministerial Conferences (AMM/PMC) scheduled on Aug 1 to 6.
According to Zaria Mohd Nasri, an officer with the media secretariat for the event, the figure included 438 foreign media personnel from 80 organisations.
“Besides Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama, other notable media agencies covering the ASEAN meetings include the Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France Press, Xinhua News Agency as well as those from other ASEAN countries,” she told Bernama.
Zaria said a 4,592-sq metre WiFi-ready media centre set up at the Tun Razak Hall 3 of PWTC would be able to accommodate up to 350 people at any one time.
“We’ve also prepared 23 private booths for media organisations which had forwarded their requests,” she said, adding that briefings on media logistics had been organised to get feedback on facilities needed at the centre.
Zaria said security would be tight at the media centre and reminded media personnel to have their passes at all times.
She said to make it easier for them, they would be allowed to cover at least the opening remarks of the meetings.
The media secretariat will also station personnel to handle the help desk, requests for interviews, documentation as well as accreditation at the media centre to ensure a smooth work flow for media practitioners. – BERNAMA
