KUALA LUMPUR – A strong earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale occurred in the south of Fiji Islands at 5.53am today.
The Meteorological Department in a statement said the epicentre was 227km southwest of Nadi, Fiji and 6,842km southeast of Semporna, Sabah.
It said the earthquake did not pose any tsunami threat.
In another statement, the department said a moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar-India border region at 2.49am today.
The epicentre of the earthquake was 1,951km northwest Padang Besar, Perlis and did not pose any tsunami threat. – BERNAMA
