PETALING JAYA – Malaysia’s challenge in the lawn bowls World Youth Championships has fizzled out.
The national players’ campaign in the Under-25 singles competition ended in the group stages at the Broadbeach Bowling Club in Queensland, Australia, yesterday.
Noorazlinda Zakaria was the sole Malaysian women’s singles player left with a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals in Group 1.
But she blew her chance after losing to Colleen Paniani of Cook Islands 20-21 yesterday. She finished joint fourth in the 11-player Group 1 with 18 points.
Syafiqah Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman’s campaign ended on Friday. The world junior silver medallist in the women’s singles last year could only finish joint-fourth in the 10-player Group 2 with 18 points.
Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple (Group 1) and Aqmal Budriz Mustakim (Group 2) are also eliminated in the men’s singles. Both finished joint fourth with 18 points. – The Star
