JOHOR BAHRU – A total of 69 Indonesians including a skipper and five assistants were arrested while attempting to leave the country illegally in waters about 3.2 nautical miles west of Pulau Kukup near Pontian, at 12.15 am today.

Region Two Marine Operations Force (MOF) deputy commander Supt Salehuddin Mat Zaman said all of them were detained after three MOF patrol boats intercepted the speed boat which was on its way to a neighbouring country.

Inspections revealed that the boat was trying to slip through a non-gazetted route to escape detection.

“Those arrested were aged between 18 and 53,” he said in a statement here today.

Salehuddin said a boat and three engines worth about RM170,000 were also seized. – BERNAMA
