PASIR PUTEH – The Pengkalan Kubor marine police discovered 60 Asian palm civets in an undergrowth near a fishing jetty in Tok Bali here yesterday.
Its acting commander officer, Inspector Raduan Mohidin believed the animals were hidden there before they were to be smuggled out of the country.
He said the civets, which were in several cages, were found during an operation in the Kelantan territorial waters at about 5 pm.
It is believed local fishing boats are used to transfer the animals into foreign fishing boats at sea to be smuggled to a neighbouring country, he told a press conference here last night.
He said the civet would be handed over to the Wildlife Department for further action. – BERNAMA
