KUALA LUMPUR: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is the saviour of the Malaysian economy, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said this during a question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday where he said the national economy would crash without GST.
“This is a negative interpretation by the Opposition. Without GST, the Malaysian economy will collapse,” he said.
He was answering a question by Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong who asked if the government was willing to reduce the current GST rate of six percent to three percent.
Liew had also claimed that GST was the reason behind the decline in domestic consumption.
