PARIS – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will work with Kenya in the fight against doping which has threatened to undermine the country’s sports, especially athletics, says Deputy President William Ruto.
Unesco will train Kenyan trainers who will help in eradicating doping activities in sports in order to protect the interests of young people involved in sporting activities, he said here Monday when opening Kenya Week in Unesco in Paris.
“Doping jeopardizes the moral and ethical basis of sports and the health of those involved and should be discouraged at all costs,” said Ruto, who added that the move by Unesco to train trainers on anti-doping matters was commendable.
“The partnership between Kenya and Unesco on training of trainers on anti-doping is commendable. This is a sincerely welcomed development,” added Ruto.
He said Kenya attached great importance to sporting activities and would not allow the use of performance-enhancing substances to ruin the careers of many upcoming athletes. – BERNAMA
