KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia is now recognised as a major player in the ASEAN region and on the international stage, thanks to the hard work of the country’s leaders and founding fathers, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
In a Malaysia Day message, he said their vision and leadership had contributed to the country’s progress.
“Now, it is our responsibility to continue to lead the national development and drive our nation to greater heights,” he said.
Liow, who is the transport minister, said the founding fathers ensured that the country was developed by taking into account the values of mutual respect and tolerance so as to pave the way for continued success.
The perseverance, courage and determination of these national heroes should be emulated to achieve success in all other fields, such as education, trade and transportation, he said.
“As the saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way. Our Paralympic athletes showed how true the saying is when they shattered records and won gold medals (at the Rio Paralympics),” he said.
Liow also urged the people to come together to oppose elements which tried to undermine unity among them.
“As Malaysians, let us strengthen unity in the spirit of ‘Sehati Sejiwa’ (One Heart, One Soul). We must overcome negative elements in order to build a bright future for our youths and future generations,” he said. – BERNAMA
