KUALA LUMPUR – Five motorcyclists aged between 26 and 47 were detained last night after testing positive for drugs.
Transport Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Ismail Bakar said the men were intercepted during an integrated operation, ‘Ops Bersepadu’ led by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) at Jalan Genting Kelang, Setapak.
“They may lose their licence if found guilty, under the Road Transport Act 1987,” he told reporters here.
Meanwhile, the JPJ issued 214 notices for traffic offences and seized 10 vehicles during the operation between 8 pm and 12 midnight.
Ismail said throughout the operation which was launched on July 10, JPJ inspected 84,000 vehicles and 5,300 individuals were found without a valid licence; of the number, 3,117 were motorcyclists.
He said 1,800 of the cars did not road tax. – BERNAMA
