JOHOR BAHRU – Three members of a family were among five people who perished in a two-vehicle collision at KM77 Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing, Kota Tinggi near here, yesterday.
Kota Tinggi District Police chief Supt Rahmat Othman said the incident at 3.45pm involved a Perodua Alza and a Proton Saga FLX.
He said the Perodua was heading to Mersing from Kota Tinggi when it crossed the double white lines at a hillslope and collided with the Proton which was from Terengganu and heading to Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi on the opposite lane.
“The driver of the Perodua, Siti Nurullfarhah Md Shafi’i, 20, her parents, Md Shafi’i Kassim, 56, and Asnah Kassim, 54, as well as a passenger in the Proton, Nora Atiqah Sazumi, 13, died at the scene,” he said.
Nora’s father, Sazumi Yahya, 55, succumbed to serious head injuries at Kota Tinggi Hospital while her mother, Yusniza Yusof, 45, and sister, Nora Alina, 19, are being treated for injuries at the same hospital.
Rahmat said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – BERNAMA
