TUMPAT – Umno Youth is confident that 45 per cent of young voters at the Pengkalan Kubor State by-election will vote for Barisan Nasional (BN).
Its head Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said this was because the young voters were aware of the late Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar’s contributions to the constituency while he was their representative for three terms.
“God willing, the young voters will choose the BN candidate (Mat Razi Mat Ail) who is capable of continuing where the late Noor Zahidi left off,” he told reporters after visiting the Pengkalan Kubor polling centre here, today.   Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said the BN candidate, known to be an ‘ustaz’ or religious teacher, was not only capable of bringing physical development to the area, but will also be a good influence among the youths.
Meanwhile, he said the request by the youths in the area for more futsal courts would be considered.
“We face a problem with site, as land is under the jurisdiction of the state government. But we assure you that we will build these courts,” he said.
The by-election was called following Noor Zahidi’s death on Aug 20.
In the by-election to be held on Sept 25, Mat Razi, 48, will contest against PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, 56, and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 47.
At the 13th general election last year, Noor Zahidi defeated Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Shaharun Ibrahim and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary with a majority of 1,736 votes. – BERNAMA
