KUALA LUMPUR – Forty-two members of parliament have taken up the ‘Garmin MP Step Challenge’ for a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their constituents.
The three-week programme, from tomorrow to Oct 2, was launched at the briefing room of Parliament here today by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
“MPs have to start leading by example because we have to adopt a healthy lifestyle not only for ourselves but also for the people we represent,” he said after the launch.
Khairy said the programme would also help to boost the National Sports Day on Oct 10.
Each participation is provided with a Garmin Vivofit 2 fitness tracker to gauge the fitness level, the number of steps taken daily and calories burned.
The challenge offers a top prize of RM10,000 which the winner can use to conduct sports activities in his or her constituency in conjunction with the National Sports Day.
On the National Sports Day, Khairy said the participation of the people in the activities would be stepped up.
It was not only a platform for unity, prevention of ailments and a symbol of inclusivity but also an avenue to promote sports talents to the world stage, he said. – BERNAMA
