KLANG – Forty-one guest relations officers were rounded up in a raid at an entertainment outlet in Bandar Botanic here.
Aged between 18 and 35, and believed to be victims of human trafficking, they were rescued after a squad of policemen led by South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Rahmat Ariffin raided the place at about 12.10am yesterday.
The victims included 26 Vietnamese, three Indonesians, eight from China and four from Laos.
South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Alzafny Ahmad said a 36-year-old Malaysian man, who was the outlet manager, was arrested during the raid.
“Initial investigations revealed that the outlet had been operating since early this year.
“The case is classified under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking In Persons and AntiSmuggling of Migrants Act,” he said when contacted.
Those guilty of the offence can be sentenced up to 15 years’ imprisonment and fined. – The Star Online
