KUCHING – Upgrading and rehabilitation works on the Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant, No. 3, would be completed by 2017, according to state Public Utilities Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
“Kuching Water Board (KWB) is in the midst of upgrading the capacity of plant 3 from 200 million litres per day (MLD) to 400 MLD to cater to the demand of city consumers and the surrounding areas.
“The works will be fully completed by 2017,” he said at an appreciation dinner organised by KWB on its 55th anniversary here last night.
Awang Tengah also credited KWB for its strategic contingency plan to address water shortage in the state during the drought season this year.
“The timely construction of the additional flap in April was a commendable action,” he said.
He also acknowledged KWB’s initiative to introduce zone metering to monitor pipe leakages and reduce wastage of non-revenue water. – BERNAMA
