LUMUT – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained four local fishing boats, about nine nautical miles northwest of Pulau Talang here yesterday, for breaching the terms of their licence.
MMEA Maritime District Three Lumut director, Capt (Maritime) Wan Mat Wan Abdullah said its Kilat 11 patrol boat team led by petty officer Mohd Ramzuzaman Abu Hasan also detained the four skippers and four Myanmar crew members s who were on the boats, between 1pm and 2pm yesterday.
“Checks revealed that they had breached the terms of their licence by hiring foreigners without permission from the Fisheries director-general.
“The crew aged 20 to 45 were escorted to the Kampung Acheh jetty in Sitiawan last night for further investigation,” he said in a statement today.
Wan Mat said the case would be investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985. – BERNAMA
