PADANG RENGAS – A total of 39 villages are participating in the Padang Rengas Panjut (oil lamp) 2017 competition, from today until June 23.
The programme director, Mohd Ariff Abdul Majid said there were five themes for the competition namely, ‘Negaraku’, ‘Visit Perak Year 2017’ , ‘Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri’, ‘Historical Building’ and ‘Malaysian Culture’ to be chosen by the participants.
He said only one entry was allowed per village for this year’s competition compared to two entries from each village previously.
“It is to strengthen the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding between young people and adults in producing the attractive oil lamp,” he said after the launching of the competition by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz at the Padang Rengas parliamentary constituency service centre, here today.
Mohd Ariff, who is also Padang Rengas UMNO Youth chief, said the competition which entered its fourth year, offered a cash prize of RM3,500 for the winner, RM2,000 (runner-up), RM1,000 (third place), RM500 (fourth place) and RM300 (fifth place).
“Members of the jury will start their assessment on June 23 from 10pm until early morning,” he said.
Besides that, Mohd Ariff said the organiser also introduced an open photo contest offering a cash prize of RM300 for the winner, RM200 (the runner-up) and RM100 (third place).
Photos for the competition must be submitted through Instagram #panjut2017 and the deadline is on June 27. – BERNAMA
