KUALA LUMPUR: The winner of the closed category (Malaysians) in the KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge 2015 on May 17, will receive a cash prize of RM2,000.
Menara Kuala Lumpur chief executive Meor Shahril Anuar Ahmad Rathuan said the cash prize was introduced for the first time this year to encourage local participation in the event.
“The prize will be given to the winner in the senior or junior category. The local participant with the lowest time will receive the cash,” he told reporters at Menara Kuala Lumpur, here yesterday.
Eight categories will be contested in the 14th edition of the annual event, compared with 10 held last year.
“We have received 3,500 participants since registration was opened on Feb 1. Every year the Menara Kuala Lumpur International Towerthon receives tremendous response from New Zealand, Kenya, the Philippines, Australia, France, Germany, United States, Kenya, Indonesia and Thailand,” he said.
He said this year the Towerthon which involves running up 2,508 steps of the 421m tall tower before ending at the Mega View Banquet Hall will be held in conjunction with Hari Belia which is celebrated on May 15, every year.
