GEORGE TOWN – A total of 324 people were rounded-up in an integrated operations conducted by the Penang National Anti-Drug Agency at several entertainment centres, including night clubs, in the state early today.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the operation, which started about 1 am today, also involved the Immigration Department, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“All of them, comprising 250 men and 74 women and with more that 50 per cent of them under-aged, were required to undergo urine test, where 29 of them tested positive for methamphetamine, three for opiate and 11 for tetrahydrocannabinol (Thc).
“Those detained included government and security officers,” he said.
On drug abuse among teenagers at entertainment centres, Nur Jazlan said the local authorities should take stern action against owners of entertainment outlets for allowing underage children to enter their premises. – BERNAMA
