IPOH – Police detained three youths, aged between 16 and 19 years, near Bercham, 13 km from here, when they were about to carry out a robbery early yesterday morning.
Ipoh District Police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said a police patrol detained the youths at Lengkok Bercham Timur 4 at 3 am.
“They were nabbed after their Proton Pesona rammed the patrol car and a utility pole in an effort to escape when confronted,” he told a media conference at the Ipoh District Police Headquarters here today.
Earlier, Sum witnessed a handing over of duty for the post of Ipoh District Narcotics CID chief between DSP Hasmeera Hassan and ASP Saw Heng Chye.
Sum said the police also seized the Proton Persona and several other items including a small packet of syabu, two parang and a knuckle duster.
Sum said the suspects were remanded until Sept 11 to help in investigation and did not have previous records.
In a separate case, Sum said a 28-year-old security guard with the Perodua Service Centre in Jalan Kuala Kangsar here was detained after stealing from the centre at 3.30 pm on Aug 30.
He said among the items stolen from the security guard, who was detained six hours after the theft, were five bottles of engine oil, two bottles of power steering fluid, a box of oil filters, a box of brake pad discs and a Proton Satria car.
The suspect, who had a previous record on drugs, was remanded for six days from Aug 31. – BERNAMA
