IPOH – Three people were killed in seven-vehicle pile up at KM283 of the North-South Expressway near the Ipoh Selatan toll plaza here today.
A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received an emergency call at about 9.30am.
“The accident on the soutbound lanes of the expressway involved a motorcycle, five cars and a tanker. Rescue personnel have confirmed that three victims died at the scene.
“Meanwhile, four persons are injured, including a police officer,” he said when contacted here.
He added that the bodies were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here while the injured were also sent to the same hospital for treatment.
Up till now, the police are still investigating the incident and unable to provide much details as yet.
Meanwhile, a Plus Expressways Bhd Traffic Control Centre spokesman said vehicles were moving slowly from Ipoh to Simpang Pulai due to the accident.
“Both lanes from Ipoh to Simpang Pulai have been opened but traffic is still moving slowly,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said the debris from the vehicles involved, except the tanker, have been removed from the road. – BERNAMA
