TAIPING – A total of 284 Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) veterans who served between 1969 and 1989 received the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM), in recognition of their contribution and sacrifice in fighting the nation’s enemies and maintaining peace and order in the country.
ATM Department of Veterans Affairs director-general, Major-General Datuk Mohd Noor Daud presented the awards in a ceremony at the Taiping High Technology Centre here today.
The medal recipients included veterans from the Larut, Matang, Selama and Kerian districts.
In a press conference after the presentation ceremony, Mohd Noor said that since this month, some 2,050 military veterans received the medals nationwide.
“The award is a recognition from the federal government for military veterans who had fought against the communists,” he said.
Also present at the ceremony was state industry, investment and corridor development committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Zahir Abdul Khalid. – BERNAMA
