KOTA KINABALU – A total of 266 illegal immigrants were detained here and in Penampang during a two-day integrated operation by the Sabah National Security Council which ended yesterday.
Sabah NSC secretary Mohd Rodzi Md Saad said the immigrants were among 589 people who were inspected in the operation.
He said the illegal immigrants had been sent to the Kota Kinabalu Temporary Detention Centre (PTS) for further investigation.
This brings to 2,368 people the number of illegal immigrants detained, out of a total of 5,884 people inspected, in integrated operations by the Sabah NSC since January this year, he added.
Mohd Rodzi said currently, there were 7,341 illegal immigrants detained at four PTS in Sabah, namely Kota Kinabalu (1,821), Papar (2,216), Sibuga, Sandakan (1,417) and Tawau (1,887).
This year, a total of 11,545 illegal immigrants had been deported to their respective countries of origin, he added.
He said they included 8,710 Filipinos and 2,808 Indonesians. – BERNAMA
