KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian National Film DevelopmentÂ Corporation (Finas) will promote creative industry products such as films and
television dramas which can promote the country’s culture and history.
Finas director-general Datuk Kamil Othman said the industry must change andÂ move according to the global trends in order to highlight Malaysia’s uniqueÂ heritage which were invaluable national assets.
“Historical stories such as ‘Raja Bersiong’ during the rule of the ancientÂ Kedah government has an idea value which can be worked on to become a workÂ featuring our heritage in a creative form,” he told reporters after a mediaÂ conference on the animated film ‘King of Shadows’, here, today.
Kamil said creative contents which showed the uniqueness of the culture andÂ history of Malaysia must be enhanced in line with the aspiration of theÂ government to foster awareness on heritage preservation.
Meanwhile, Kamil also expressed his pride over the production of theÂ animated film ‘King of Shadows’ which was successful in wowing Finas as it wasÂ seen able to be taken to the international level.
The film by Filmpoint Sdn Bhd is about the bravery of a young king portrayedÂ through ‘wayang kulit’ (shadow play using puppets), which is popular on the EastÂ Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.–BERNAMA
