POKOK SENA – Twenty more bodies of human trafficking victims found in Wang Kelian, Perlis were buried at the Kampung Tualang Muslim Cemetery here today.
Kedah Islamic Religious Department (JAIK) director Datuk Zahari Ismail said the bodies which were buried today were those of 14 men, two women and four whose gender could not be determined.
“This phase five burial today brings the total number of human trafficking victims who have been buried to 119,” he told reporters through the WhatsApp application.
The burial of the bodies today was conducted by members of the police force, staff of JAIK and the Department of Public Works, assisted by residents of several villages in the vicinity of the cemetery.
The burial process began at noon and ended two hours later, but the media were not allowed into the cemetery on the instructions of the police on duty.
Last May, the security forces discovered the bodies of 106 victims of human trafficking, believed to be ethnic Rohingyas from Myanmar, in several graves in Bukit Wang Burma, Wang Kelian.
Of the 106, 99 have already been buried.
Last month, security forces found more graves near the old ones in Bukit Wang Burma with 24 bodies believed to be victims of human trafficking. – BERNAMA
