JOHOR BAHRU – Two teenagers, one of whom did not have a driving licence, were among three people killed in a three-vehicle accident at the 9.3km Jalan Simpang Renggam-Benut in Pontian near here last night.
Mohamad Zulfadli Rahman, 17, who was driving a Proton Wira; his passenger, Muhammad Sharul Idham Md Dewa, 16; and Abu Hanifah Hassan, 28, who was also driving a Proton Wira, died on the spot.
The horrific crash, in which one of the cars plunged into a canal occurred about 8.50pm.
Initial police investigations revealed that Mohamad Zulfadli, who did not possess a driving licence was speeding in the car which skidded and swerved into the opposite lane before colliding with the two other cars.
Pontian police chief, Supt Zakaria Abd Rahman said the incident occurred when the Proton Wira driven by Mohamad Zulfadli, with Muhammad Sharul Isham as passenger, was headed towards Simpang Renggam at high speed when it skidded and swerved into the opposite lane.
He said the car collided with a Toyota Vios and Abu Hanifah’s Proton Wira before plunging into a canal.
“Mohamad Zulfadli, Muhammad Sharul Idham and Abu Hanifah died at the scene of the crash while the 45-year-old driver of the Toyota Vios escaped unhurt,” he said in a statement here today.
Zakaria added initial investigations revealed Mohamad Zulfaldi did not possess a driving licence.
The case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – BERNAMA
