JOHOR BAHRU – Two more victims in yesterday’s collision between a bus and a tanker lorry at the southbound 94km North-South Expressway near Yong Peng-Ayer Hitam in Batu Pahat died last night, bringing the total number of fatalities in the crash to five people.
Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Din Ahmad said they were the lorry driver, identified as G.Gothandam, 46, and a woman of Chinese nationality who was a passenger in the bus.
“Both of them died while undergoing treatment at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI), Batu Pahat, at about 8 pm yesterday,” he said when contacted today.
Din said efforts were being made to identify the victims in the crash.
Yesterday, it was reported that three women tourists from China were killed and 11 others seriously injured in the crash.
The bodies were sent to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital. The injured have been warded at the hospital.
Initial investigations revealed the accident occurred when the Yong Peng-bound lorry from Johor Baharu skidded into the opposite lane, following a tyre puncture – BERNAMA
