KUALA LUMPUR – The Sessions Court here was today told that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had confiscated nine items, including two laptop computers, in a house rented by controversial blogger, Alvin Tan and his ex-girlfriend, Vivian Lee.

Insp J. Sharveen Seelan from the MCMC Criminal Investigation Division said seven other items seized were one Umobile broadband unit, two pendrives, two cameras, one electricity bill and one Umobile bill found in the living room and the kitchen of the house.

Sharveen, who is the 13th prosecution witness, said during the raid on July 15, 2013, the police had brought the couple to the house at Jalan Ipoh here.

“Upon arriving there, the grille gate and door were locked. After entering the house I took pictures in various parts of the house,” he said during the examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin.

Sharveen was testifying in the trial of Alvin Tan or Tan Jye Yee, and Vivian Lee or Lee May Ling who were charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act for uploading their picture with a caption, “Selamat Berbuka Puasa (with Bak Kut Teh…fragrant, delicious and appetising)” which also contained the halal logo in their Facebook.

The duo were accused of committing the offence at 9 am on July 12, 2013.

They were also facing a charge under sub-section 5(1) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 for allegedly posting an obscene photograph on the same Facebook page between 9 pm on July 6, 2013 and 2 am on July 7, 2013.

When cross-examined by Lee’s lawyer Chong Joo Tian, Sharveen said Tan had confessed to owing the two laptop computers, two cameras, the broadband and the two pendrives, while the electricity bill and the Umobile bill statement belonged to the owner of the house.

The trial before Judge Abdul Rashid Daud continues Jan 21. – BERNAMA
