KUANTAN – A total of 1,556 companies in Pahang with taxable supplies exceeding RM500,000 have yet to register with the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Pahang Customs Department director, Datuk Sarip Ismail said all businesses needed to register for GST by Feb 28 to avoid being fined.
“In a special operation named ‘Ops GST’, we will search for companies that have not registered with the GST. We will also register their businesses on the spot, if eligible,” he told Bernama here.
Sarip said ‘Ops GST’ would be held for 15 days from March 1, and if any party failed to register under the GST Act 2014 after March 1, it would be forcefully registered and fined RM15,000.
Companies might be liable to a fine not exceeding RM30,000 or imprisonment for up to two years or both, if they failed to register for the GST, he said. – BERNAMA
