JOHOR BAHRU – Region Two Marine Police detained 13 Indonesians in a forest and at the beach at Pulau Hijau, Bandar Penawar in an ‘Op Pensura/Landai’ conducted last night.
Its commander ACP Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said the 10 comprising seven men and three women aged between 21 and 45 were apprehended separately during the operation from 11.15 pm till 12.30 am.
He said the suspects who did not have any valid document or had overstayed were attempting to exit the country through an ungazetted route off Bandar Penawar near Kota Tinggi.
Khiu said investigations revealed the group were hiding in the forest and at the beach to wait for the adverse weather to abate before taking a boat to return to their country.
“They were brought to Bandar Penawar Police Station and handed over to Immigration Department for investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amended 2002),” he said in a statement today. – BERNAMA
