127-Member Team Mobilised In Search For Missing Student

HULU TERENGGANU – A 127-member search and rescue (SAR) team has been mobilised to find Ahmad Rafikin Azman, reported missing when participating in a marathon at Hutan Lipur Sekayu, Kuala Berang, since Saturday.

Hulu Terengganu deputy police chief ASP Rosli Amir said the SAR operation,  which enters the second day, involves 35 soldiers from the Royal Malay Regiment (RMR) Camp in Seberang Takir, Kuala Terengganu.

“The 35 soldiers are in addition to the 92 SAR members yesterday. The search operation has been intensified and expanded up to one kilometre from the original area.

“It involves search on land and riverine areas with the help of soldiers who began the operation at 8 this morning,” he told Bernama when met at Hutan Lipur Sekayu here, today.

Rosli said no new leads had been found in the search for the student despite the use of four tracker dogs from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD).

Ahmad Rafikin,16,a student of SMS Sultan Mahmud in Kuala Terengganu, was reported missing by his father Azman Othman,50, who came to fetch him home after the race ended.

The SAR operation involves the FRD, PDRM, Rela, Army, National Adventure Asasociation, residents and family members.

The case also drew attention of Telemong State Asemblyman Datuk Rozi Mamat, who is also the State Exco member for Youth & Sports and Human Resources. – BERNAMA
