KOTA BAHARU – The police have detained 11 men and a woman to facilitate investigations into an incident where two gunshots were fired near a restaurant in Jalan Sri Cemerlang here early today.
Initial investigations revealed the shooting incident was linked to a fight over the 23-year-old woman.
Kelantan police chief, Datuk Mazlan Lazim said two groups of youths were fighting over a woman who was known to them through the social networking site Facebook.
“When a fight almost broke out in the 12.15am incident, one of the suspects fired two shots at random, hitting a multi-purpose vehicle and a car parked near the restaurant,” he said at a news conference in the Kelantan police contingent headquarters here.
Mazlan said five hours after the incident, the police detained five men at a premises in Jalan Sri Cemerlang.
“On raiding the premises, the police seized an Australian-make Steyr Ma-A1 pistol loaded with three bullets, another firearm loaded with three bullets and a sword’s sheath,” he added.
Later, six men linked to another group, and the woman surrendered at the Pengkalan Chepa police headquarters. – Bernama
